not far from the tree – a new business and a new blog!
Aug 20th, 2007 by Laura Reinsborough
I’ve been dreaming of harvesting found fruit in the city. Meanwhile, little did I know that apples have been growing in a beautiful orchard just minutes from my house, although the fruit is grown mostly just to show what heritage orchards look like. When a new farmers’ market started up just around the corner, all of these things came together and I was asked to harvest those apples that will otherwise go uneaten.
The result is ‘not far from the tree,’ a new apple business I’ve started up! The profits will go towards organic pest control methods so that we can really build up a capacity for urban found fruit harvesting.
Exciting, eh? And this blog will document it all! Stay tuned for more apple goodness…
