The birthday party was a hit!
Jun 29th, 2012 by Robin Newman, Events Coordinator

We are always so overjoyed with the incredible support from all our volunteers, fruit tree owners, donors, fans, and local business partners and this occasion was no exception.
Our birthday bash began as we filled our cargo bike with Steamwhistle beers and served up sangria filled with handpicked cherries and serviceberries. Stellar volunteers served freshly stewed sour cherries atop SOMA blueberry basil gelato and Cherry Amaretto Ice cream from The Big Carrot, while guests filled their bellies with flatbread pizza bites and veggie platters provided by The Magic Oven.
When the clock struck 8 pm, a giant three-tiered birthday cake was cut and served for all to enjoy. We also had sunshine cupcakes made by the amazing Meera Jain, and a giant green apple cupcake cake. Freshly-picked cherries were transformed into beautiful cherry galettes by the talented Visha Gandhi with help from Supreme Gleaner (and recent George Brown College grad!) Jenna Hossack. Yum!
While the stars began to twinkle and the CN Tower lights glowed, volunteers helped to do one big final sweep into our van generously donated by Donway Ford. A special thank you to Leah Bobet, Eva Mackenzie and Joanna Flatt for helping with some added volunteer tasks.
A few of our photos are up from the evening, stored in our online gallery and on our Facebook page. Thanks to volunteer event photographer Blake Williams for contributing his talent.
What a team. What a night!
