“3, 2, 1 – CRUNCH!”
Feb 14th, 2009 by Laura Reinsborough
FoodShare’s second annual Great Big Crunch kicks off Nutrition Month with a feast on the season’s crunchiest treats on Thursday, March 5th. Bring your local apples (or other crunchable favourites) out of winter storage and enjoy a collective crunch to celebrate all things good, healthy, local, and nutritious.
This program is targeted at elementary school students. Teachers are encouraged to register their classes with the Great Big Crunch (by emailing thegreatbigcrunch@foodshare.net) and to download the classroom activities made available here. This is a great excuse to make use of your PA system – at school or work – in a whole new way: “3, 2, 1 – CRUNCH!” Last year’s inaugural event was a hit:
- Classrooms participated all across the country, and beyond;
- A university class at Lakehead found it difficult to acquire local apples in their region, so they crunched on potatoes; and
- A Grade 1 student in Nova Scotia lost a front tooth when he took the Great Big Crunch (story here).
