What’s in a name?
Sep 26th, 2008 by Suzanne Long
I’m eating a foraged apple with my lunch today. I picked it this morning in the Cedarvale ravine near my home. It’s delicious. And deserving of a name.
So I’ve got an immodest proposal. Let’s start a new naming convention to honour our local neighbourhood fruit trees. We’ll be carrying on the fine old tradition of naming fruit after its place of origin (e.g., St. Lawrence or Westfield Seek-No-Further apples) with our own city-crafted, neighbourhood grown twist.
Let me introduce the Cedarvale apple. And celebrate the previously christened Hillcrest apricot and Spadina Surprise apples. With hopes of meeting a Woodbine Heights delicacy soon!
