A peck or more of pears
Sep 24th, 2008 by Laura Reinsborough
A few people (including Andy Barrie) have tried to teach me what a peck is over the last little while. It still doesn’t translate into visuals for me, but I’m sure we picked quite a few yesterday afternoon.
This was a beautiful, tall bosc pear tree in a backyard near High Park. There were only four gleaners on the scene but we picked a mean haul. The fruit tree owner had already picked some for their family, so this meant plenty more for our preserving workshop. Though still quite firm (we’ve learned that pears must be picked before they ripen), the taste of these pears was at full ripeness.
